We LOVE reading in Junior Infants.
We have been learning about the airport.
Other activities included:
Yesterday we were lucky enough to meet some friendly assistance dogs. How CUTE are they?
We started back in January with the theme of weather. We got plenty of chances to use our new vocabulary about rain and wind with Storm Brendan followed by the frosty weather.
After that we moved on to the theme of Polar exploration. We worked as a team to build igloos and boats. We dressed up in our warm coats to feel like we were really there!
Other activities included Playdough and Small World (making scenes and stories with puppets or small figurines) and used the computer for vocabulary games.
We read polar themed stories and used magnifying glasses to get a close up view of the Inuit people and animals. We sorted animals into sets of polar and non-polar animals.
We designed clothing and made patterns on scarves and matching pairs of gloves.
Well done Junior Infants.
We are enjoying GAA. Thanks to the coach, Fachtna.
We can learn a lot of mathematical language from examining and comparing pumpkins.

We had such fun at the GAA on Friday. BIG thanks to the fantastic volunteers.
The boys also loved going on the double-decker bus.
Thank you Bishopstown GAA for the fun in the sun today.
We celebrated St. Patrick's day with a ceolchoirm (concert) and we had a dance party in the classroom.
Our theme in Aistear this month was "At the Airport". This gave us lots of opportunity to use our new CLOTHING vocabulary in both English and Gaeilge because we had to pack our bags for different locations. We built on the vocabulary we learned last month about weather and the clothes needed for different places.
In our role-play area the children used their social skills (greetings, manners, eye-contact) and language skills to check-in at the airport, give information and ask for help.
In arts and crafts, the children worked on their cutting, gluing and drawing skills. We also made passports and X-ray machine for the role play area.
In the construction area the children made various modes of transportation with lego.
In the puzzle and games area they used their language skills to dress the teddy for various scenarios. They also played games and puzzles, a good way to pass the time when waiting at airports!
In the small world area they used their imaginations and created story lines about people going on holidays.
In the investigation area we carried out scientific research about fabrics that are waterproof or not. We also investigated the effects of folding, stretching, pulling, squashing fabrics. We used our sense of touch to feel and described a variety of clothes. We sorted them into sets based on size/colours/purpose etc.
We celebrated the wonder of BOOKS today.
Well done on the costumes.
Read extra books today at bedtime!
In January we were learning about the weather. We set up a polar world for the boys to explore. We certainly got a change to practice our vocabulary for rain and cold weather this week!
At the Investigation Table the boys sorted, described and studied animals with magnifying glasses before sorting the animals in to polar or non-polar sets.
In the Role Play area the boys were pretending to be Inuit People or pretending to be explorers.
In our Small World Area the boys used puppets, toys and props to create a polar world and had some creative storylines! Wonderful.
The Arts and Crafts table designed some warm, winter clothes and also created things from playdough.
The Construction Area was full of igloos this month. From week 1 to week 3 the igloos became more elaborate. Some had CCTV and slides by the end!
We learned about the Arctic and the Antarctic. We learned there a penguins in the Antarctic and Polar bears in the Arctic.... and a lot more!
What a nice way to end the term, dancing, laughing and having fun. I felt like I was at the Late Late Toy Show!
Well Done Junior Infants on a great show. You made the Story Of Christmas come to life for all in the audience.
