Great Swimming Alan
A big congratulations to Alan Dzaee who won another trophy for his excellent swimming. Here's what he has to say:
"I love swimming. It's my passion. I have earned lots of trophies and medals. My favourite trophy is for the SEAL boy of the year award. I was drying my hair and my coach came and gave me a box and asked me to open the box at home. That's how I got it - the big shiny glass trophy."
Children and teachers in St. Michael's school are running to get fit and strong. We run one mile which is equal to six laps of our school every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We run in groups, we can choose which group suits our ability. Your children are enjoying running because they know they are becoming fitter, they are getting fresh air and they have great fun with the other classes and teachers. Running is a fantastic sport for all of us.
Donation for School Library
A very generous donation of €500 was given to our school by a past pupil for our school library. With this money the school was able to purchase a number of copies of the following novels:
The Young Rebels by Morgan Llywelyn
There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar
Holes by Louis Sachar
The Iron Man by Ted Hughes
Bill's New Frock by Anne Fine
The boys are really enjoying D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time with these new books.
The boys in St. Michael's have been busy making ribbons for THE CAROLINE FOUNDATION. THE CAROLINE FOUNDATION was recently established in memory of Caroline Dwyer-Hickey who passed away on 25th March 2013 aged 35 after a nine year battle with cancer.
The purpose of THE CAROLINE FOUNDATION is to support the work of Professor John Crown and the CANCER CLINICAL RESEARCH TRUST (CCRT) by funding an additional research scientist to work within CCRT. The Caroline Foundation is a constituent of CCRT and all funds raised go directly to CCRT. It is a voluntary organisation set up by CCRT in conjunction with Caroline's family and friends.
We are proud to announce that the boys in our school have raised €354 for this excellent cause.
Whole School Evaluation
At the end of September 2015 a Whole School Evaluation was carried out in the school. The Board of Management of St. Michael's B.N.S would like to acknowledge the affirmation received in the inspectors' report. We welcome the very positive report highlighting the hard working and committed staff, the respectful and inclusive school environment, the on-going support of parents and the recognition of the high standards of teaching and learning. The Board commends pupils on their excellent behaviour and application to learning as strongly emphasised in the report. We welcome the acknowledgement of the high quality of support for pupils' well-being in a culture of mutual respect which permeates throughout the school.
