We had a great time celebrating Arts Week in school last week. We really enjoyed our workshop with local artist Catherine. She taught the children how to paint with their hands and fingers. The finished product was beautiful. We cannot wait to start working with Catherine on the mural 🎨
Drumadóir was a huge hit with Rang a hAon. Ben taught the children lots of drum sequences and they got to play along to some of their favourite songs! It was excellent!
Have a look at some of the photos that captured a creative and fun filled week below 😊🎨🎶 🎭
We had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day today.
We attened, via zoom, The 2024 World Book Day Halfway up the Stairs Online Event where we got to meet award winning Author Erika McGann, who read her brilliant book called ‘Standing on One Leg is Hard’. We also got to meet the illustrator of that book Clive McFarland, who taught us how to draw some of the characters from the story.
We discussed our favourite books with the class and completed a book review.
Finally we ended the day by curling up with our pillows and blankets reading ☺️
We had a lovely visit to the library today.
Thanks so much to Linda who welcomed us so well, and had the library set up for us with a lovely outdoor area where we could enjoy the sunshine while we read our favourite books!
We really enjoyed it!

With the help of the children in 5th Class & Ms. Monaghan we made St.Brigid’s crosses. We listened to the story of St. Brigid’s Cloak and together we made our own St. Brigid’s Cloaks.

We had great fun in Rang a hAon this week celebrating Science Week. 👩🔬🧑🔬
We used our engineering skills to build towers from spaghetti and marshmallows 🏗. We did and experiment using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to make a magic potion 🧪. Also we learned about our hearts and tested our heart rates while exercising.
Finally we loved using our scientific brains everyday with Ms.Colleran’s science quiz!
Thanks to Dunmore RFC from all at Dunmore NS For

We really enjoyed a visit from a very special guest today, Shane Walsh. Shane is the captain of the Galway senior football team and he gave out the prize to the winner of our jersey competition, who was Tom Flaherty. Well done Tom. Shane spoke to the children, demonstrated some skills and got them active. Thanks Shane :)
Seeing as Dunmore are into two county finals , the intermediate county final and the u19 county final we said we’d show our support in 1st class ! It’s great to have some excitement so we made some dunmore flags to decorate the classroom ! We can’t wait for the special guests tomorrow to present a prize to the winner of our county Galway jersey competition! I will post the kids jerseys after the competition :)
The children had brilliant costumes this year for Halloween and we loved to see them all dressed up :) Here they are in their costumes and with the witches hats we made in class.
