February 8, 2019

Hello Everyone,

Welcome back to term 2 of STEM Club - it's great to Bee 🐝 back (pardon the pun!). So far in term 2 of STEM Club we have been learning about algorithms, coding and debugging. Lots of fun has been had using our new and interactive Bee-Bots. Here are a few photos of the activities enjoyed so far in term 2. We will have plenty of more updates over the coming weeks so remember to check in regularly. Thank you.

The STEM Club team

In SNCN STEM Club, our latest challenge has been to design and construct a bridge. The boys and girls worked very hard as a team to design and create fantastic bridges that could withstand the weight of a toy car! Here are some pictures of us in the process of building the bridges.

STEM Club has finished for Christmas but we cannot wait to see current and new members in 2019!

Highlights of STEM club Term 1

Volcanoes

Our first task in SNCN STEM Club was to construct a Volcano. We used various materials like newspaper, plastic bottles and masking tape to construct the volcano. Paper mache and paint added the final touch to our volcanoes. Needless to say, this was an enjoyable activity spread over two weeks. By combining vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, red food coloring and warm water, we were able to create an active volcano with spilling frothy lava all over the place.

STEM Club

SNCN STEM Club is a new and exciting after school club in Scoil Náisiúnta an Chroí Naofa. The club took off with their first class after Halloween and have been very busy since!

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific areas- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In STEM club, we look at each area in a fun and interactive way. Check up on our website regularly to see what we have been up to!

After school STEM classes are delivered by Liam Walsh and Kate O’Driscoll.
